The Democratic Republic of the Congo
The Democratic Republic of the Congo is Africa's third largest country. The Congo's problems all originated with Belgium's failed decolonization. King Leopold II stripped the Congo of its natural resources and took them for himself. The Congo's major natural resources consist of rubber, diamonds, copper, cobalt, iron, and other minerals. Although the nation is graced with so many natural resources, it is the fourth-poorest country in the world due to political corruption, war, and genocide in neighboring countries. The official language of the Congo is French; however, over 400 Sudanese and Bantu dialects are spoken.
